What a fantastic day for the Chris Wills Memorial Trophy, a beautiful 22 degrees, light breezes and not a cloud in the sky.
CHICC batted first and were 0/60 after drinks, going on to score 6/162. Waverely Stanley top scored with 36 followed closely by Geoff Lougoon who retired after 34 runs. Barry Van Peppen provided a fantastic cameo providing 6 runs of only 3 balls to close out the innings.
With it all in front of Tamborine, CHICC took to the field to defend a respectable total. Ron Faulks took the new ball and within 5 deliveries and one strategic fielding change, our very own Barry Van Peppen took a screamer of a catch, diving full length in the gully to his right hand side. Something he will hang his hat on for months, no make that years to come. Wickets continued to tumble as CHICC powered through the top order of Tamborine who finished 5/40 at drinks. The introduction of spin from Geoff Lougoon who bowled 2/5 of 3 overs and Pat Carty’s tight bowling efforts of 1/6 of 5 overs brought the game home, but not before Waverley Stanley bowled the last delivery of the match, taking middle stump. Tamborine finished the game with 56.
Man of the match was awarded to Waverley Stanley and a proud CHICC captain, Bill Seiler accepted the winners trophy.
Special honors goes to our umpire Les, who today, not only refereed fairly, but provided a noble offering of his match fees on the bar for today’s players.
Great game today boys, looking forward to more cricket ahead this season.
Come on down to the Coomera Hope Island Cricket Club this Sunday to watch Tamborine Mountain Vs our own Coomera Crocs Masters Side.
Coomera Hope Island Cricket Club is having it’s last sign on day on Sunday. Get on down to the clubhouse to secure your spot in the season ahead. We will be there rain or shine. Looking forward to seeing you there.
CHICC would like to welcome the new and returning players who signed on for the new season of cricket over the weekend. The club enjoyed a healthy turn out to our rain affected sign on day. QLD Bulls swing bowler Chris Swan kindly donated his time and a few autographs for young players.
This season is setting itself as one of the club’s biggest with 18+ junior teams and 5 senior teams expected to play for Coomera Hope Island. One of the clubs biggest draw cards is the excellence provided to all young cricketers in our club. Our club aspires to provide accredited coaches, have a go format games, a focus on participation from all players, no matter their strength or weakness, in summary, a fair go. All junior players receive trophies at the end of the season and a team photograph, and all of this comes standard in their membership.
Our next sign on coming up this Sunday, 28th of August between 10am and 2pm will be a fun filled day of free face painting for the kids, a sausage sizzle, cold refreshments, and on ground games and activities. The practice nets will be open and everyone is welcome to enjoy a bowl and bat.
